Dario Boras,

2017 winner

“Get in the Ring Split is going to change someone's life. It changed mine. The drive, electricity and positive energy of the event is incredible. It is The Big Stage and you want to get on it!”
Paul Armstrong,

Forbes Contributor

“Get in the Ring isn’t a million dollar prize fund like other competitions out there but it is something a bit more interesting – in my mind at least. Credibility, pride and a community that works together – three things that are often worth a lot more than quick money”

Frequently asked questions

What is Get in the Ring Split 2021?

Get in the Ring (GITR) is a global startup competition franchise taking place in a number of countries around the world. Winners of all country competitions participate in one Global Meetup where they have a chance to pitch their project in front of a large number of serious investors and corporations.

What are the prizes?

City of Split has committed total prize pool of 300.000,00 kn for this competition. The prizes will be distributed as follows:
1st place: 120.000 kn
2nd place: 70.000 kn
3rd place: 50.000 kn
4th place: 20.000 kn
5th place: 20.000 kn
6th place: 20.000 kn
Besides the financial support, GITR organizers will provide the winner participation in GITR Global Meetup 2022 with all costs covered.

Who can compete?

You can compete if:
1) You have a small business (obrt, j.d.o.o. or d.o.o.) that meets all the following criteria:
- registered in Split OR ready to move it to Split if you win a financial prize
- registered less than 5 years ago
- with no debts towards the City or State
- eligible for state aid by De Minimis rules

2) You are a startup team without a registered business, consisting of adult, business-capable persons, who will be obliged to register a company based in the City of Split before signing the Grant Agreement (in case of winning a financial prize).

HOW TO APPLY?

First, read the rules of the competition on the Documents page.
Second, fill in application forms:
- all three forms available in Documents need to be uploaded (signed and stamped) at the end of Online form
- Online form is available on this website.
Important note: Startup teams without a registered company, should put "not applicable" in places where the question is referring to companies in the Online form.
Also, the questions marked as not required (without *), you don't need to fill.

You do not need to upload pitch deck and video in the online form, those are not required questions (they only serve if you wish to leave your data for GITR database). The only thing you need to upload are the three forms (Obrazac 1, 2 and 3). You need to upload them at the end of the online form.

If you have questions or need help, reach us at
spi@efst.hr.

How does it work?

If you apply, your application will be evaluated by expert committee in multiple phases. Only the best applications will move to the next phase. Phases are:
Preselection:
Up to 12 applications with a minimum of 7,5 points will be approved in this phase. The criteria are: project description quality and vision (0-5 points), innovativeness (0-5 points) and market potential (0-5 points). The preselection is made based completely on your written application.

Selection:
Finalists will be selected from 12 participants in 1-on-1 conversations with expert judges in this phase. All the applicants will be evaluated based on the following 8 criteria (each has 0-5 points): problem, solution, market, competition, team, financial model, business plan and finally achievements. Selection takes place on 29.10.2021. morning at Faculty of Economics.

Finale:
Finale will have 3 matches where 6 applicants compete 1-on-1 in front of judges and an audience. It will take place on
29.10.2021.
in the evening at a location which will be announced. Winners of matches will then be additionally publicly questioned by judges and the audience for the final decision on the distribution of places.
Check out how the matches look like.

How to win?

The purpose of this program is to support innovative new business ideas with large market potential. The first thing you should have is such a business idea. Applications with stronger proof of concept will get better chances of winning. Make sure you write your application in a way that makes it easy to read and understand, not too long but also addressing all the important questions and elements of your project. Don’t forget to include all your achievements and strong sides.
Startups selected in the preselection phase will be invited to pitch training where you will learn how to present your project in a brief and effective way.

What if you win?

Although you might be tempted to “obisit rukavice o klin”, “povuć se na vrhu” and “živit na lovorikama”, we would advise against that. Mostly because winning GITR Split means you are just getting started.
The money you won has to be spent on activities which will take your business project closer to the market and you will have to provide evidence of this. Also, you will have to participate in the Global meetup, and do your best to win it.

Why is this in English?

English is “lingua franca” in the world of startups and investors. Our judges and other participants are chosen for their expertise and competencies, which means that many of them don’t speak Croatian language. This is why your application and all the pitching is done in English language.
